AFCON 2025: Super Eagles Players Make CAF Best XI [FULL LIST]

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially named three Nigerians—Victor Osimhen, Calvin Bassey, and Ademola Lookman—to its “Best XI for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).”

The announcement, made on Wednesday morning, saw a list “dominated by Nigerians, Senegalese and Moroccans” published just days after the competition concluded.

Osimhen earned his spot after participating in six matches for the Super Eagles, where the “three-time African champions won bronze in Morocco.”

The “Galatasary forward scored four goals in the competition” to aid Nigeria’s campaign.

His teammate, Ademola Lookman, was recognized after he “had the most goals involvement at the AFCON, netting three and providing four assists.”

Additionally, Calvin Bassey of Fulham was included as a testament to his defensive prowess.

His selection “was not a fluke” as he acted as “a wall in the Nigerian defence,” contributing to “three clean sheets in the six matches he played.”

Although the “defender played all minutes for Coach Eric Chelle’s side in Morocco,” he missed the “third-place play-off after being suspended.”

While Nigeria secured three spots, the “runners up Morocco and winners Senegal also dominated the team of the competition.”

Both the “Teranga Lions and the Atlas Lions of Morocco” were represented by “four players each” in the final selection.
