The Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed reports that Bello Turji, the nation’s most wanted bandit leader, is a registered member of the party, labeling a membership card circulating online as a complete fabrication.
In a statement released on Monday, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris Gusau, characterized the card as a crude forgery created by “mischievous elements” intent on sabotaging the party’s ongoing electronic registration (e-registration) process.
Gusau pointed out that the forgery is obvious even to a layperson, noting that the card features an emboldened “26,” which he said “raised immediate suspicion” as a likely reference to January 26.

He further clarified that the image on the card is a well-known, widely circulated photo of Turji, making the idea of a formal registration “implausible.”
The party emphasized that its automated system requires a valid National Identification Number (NIN), which the bandit kingpin does not have. “This alone renders the efforts of the fabricators meaningless,” the statement noted.
Gusau also questioned how such a registration could occur under National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) rules, stating, “It is unthinkable that NIMC would capture anyone wearing military camouflage and carrying a firearm, as such features are outrightly unacceptable.”
Providing technical evidence of the fraud, the APC revealed that the card’s identification code begins with “26,” which is designated for Niger State, whereas Zamfara State codes start with “36.”
Preliminary investigations by the party have reportedly traced the forged card to Babangida Aliyu Shinkafi (Waziri), an associate of Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, who was recently suspended from the e-registration exercise for alleged misconduct. The APC claimed the image first appeared on his Facebook page.
The party concluded by stating: “The APC in Zamfara State categorically debunks and distances itself from the fake membership card bearing registration number ID: APC 261113000102. The incorrect state code used clearly exposes the ignorance of the fabricators.”
The matter has been reported to security agencies for further investigation.
