Things To Know About Nollywood Actor Stanley Amandi Arrested For Alleged Role In Coup Plot To Topple Tinubu

Nollywood actor and director Stanley “Stan K. Amandi” Amandi has become a central figure on social media following reports of his arrest for his alleged involvement in a failed coup attempt against President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

According to PREMIUM TIMES, Amandi was detained by security forces in September 2025 alongside several military officers.

While his name has only recently been linked to the plot publicly, investigators believe the alleged conspirators recruited him to serve as a “propagandist.”

The group is accused of plotting to assassinate high-ranking officials, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Speaker Tajudeen Abbas.

Amandi, an Enugu-born filmmaker, has a long career in Nollywood, having started as a teenager and worked with veterans like Patience Ozokwor and Nkem Owoh.

He previously served as the chairman of the Enugu State Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) and was later appointed as the chapter’s sole administrator in 2022.

As a director, his credits include “The Album” and “Tiger King,” while his acting roles span films such as “Lionheart” and “Another Bondage.”

In a final interview with First Mate Multimedia on 5 September 2025, Amandi opened up about the professional betrayals he faced in the industry, specifically mentioning a director who used his support but denied him paid roles.

He stated: “My challenge comes from a fellow director… he will give one superior reason or another, present one argument or another, to cast another person instead of me.”

He eventually decided to stop assisting this colleague, noting: “You can’t deprive me of my little stipends, and still express the same fact that you don’t want to do your movie, to help you support what you’re doing.”

He also commented on the behavior of younger producers and addressed long-standing rumors of homosexuality in Nollywood.

Regarding the latter, he remarked: “I would say I don’t know much about it and how to operate, but that is not to say that they don’t happen. I heard them. They even point hands, fingers, you know. I never see.”

Amandi’s social media presence went dark on 19 September 2025, just days before he was reportedly taken into custody.
