Tinubu Asks Wike To Halt Impeachment Of Fubara With Strong Conditions [VIDEO]

President Bola Tinubu has launched a fresh intervention to quell the long-standing hostility between Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

This latest peace deal follows a period of extreme political turbulence, including a six-month state of emergency that began on March 18, 2025.

In this new push for stability, Tinubu has ordered an immediate halt to any impeachment proceedings against Fubara, while simultaneously demanding that the governor acknowledge Wike’s political seniority.

Sources indicate that Tinubu delivered a firm message before his trip to Türkiye, emphasizing that Wike remains the undisputed leader of the political structure in Rivers.

The President reportedly used his own history in Lagos to illustrate his point on political hierarchy.

According to an insider, Tinubu asked: “Is Babajide Sanwo-Olu my leader in Lagos, or was Babatunde Fashola my leader when he was governor?”

He stressed that despite Fubara holding the governorship, Wike must be treated as an elder statesman whose political seniority cannot be ignored.

As part of the strict conditions for peace, Fubara must formally recognize Wike as the “political leader” in Rivers State with final authority on party matters.

In exchange, Wike has been instructed to end all plots to remove Fubara from office.

The President also directed that candidates loyal to Wike be recognized for the upcoming House of Assembly by-elections scheduled by INEC for February 21, 2026.

A source noted: “It was explicitly stated that Wike has two candidates for the by-elections and that those candidates are to be recognised by the APC party structure.”

The feud, which began shortly after Fubara’s inauguration in 2023, has centered on the Governor’s attempt to assert independence from Wike’s influence.

While Fubara’s allies insist the state cannot be governed from Abuja, Wike’s camp has frequently accused the Governor of betrayal.

Interestingly, while Tinubu has secured the immediate future of the administration, he reportedly refused to discuss Fubara’s potential re-election, describing any talk about the 2027 governorship as “still premature.”
