Tragedy has hit the Yoruba film industry as Nollywood actress Ajara Lasisi, widely recognized as Aunty Ajara, has passed away.
Her demise was confirmed on Thursday, February 5, 2026, by filmmaker Tobi Oladele Teemony (Tee Mony) via an emotional Instagram post.
The director disclosed that the actress succumbed to a health crisis after a period of intense struggle, stating: “With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved actress, Aunty Ajara. She passed on overnight after a long and courageous battle with illness.”
Teemony acknowledged the global outpouring of support the actress received, noting: “immense love, prayers, and financial support from kind-hearted people across the world.”
He further expressed gratitude, saying, “We are deeply grateful to everyone who stood by her with prayers, contributions, encouragement, and compassion.”
Following her passing, the filmmaker officially requested that all fundraising efforts cease, noting that financial contributions were “no longer required.”
He concluded his message by stating, “Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, loved ones, and everyone grieving this painful loss.”
The announcement featured a video from the actress’s elder brother, Ridwan Lasisi, who formally confirmed the medical report.
He said, “Good morning to you all. My name is Ridwan Lasisi. I am a brother to Ajara. The doctor confirmed to us this morning that Ajara has passed on.”
He added his appreciation for the industry’s support, saying, “All the families, we are using this period to appreciate you all. We appreciate the president and all industry members.”
Like Teemony, he urged the public to stop donations: “We also use this opportunity to appeal to those sending money not to send it anymore. The one we are contributing for her sake is no more. Thank you so much. We do not want you to send money into that account again.”
This sad news comes just a week after Tee Mony and fellow actress Ronke Oshodi Oke raised an alarm regarding her deteriorating state.
At the time, they pleaded: “Please, we need help. Ajara’s health condition has become more critical despite all the efforts so far. So much has already been spent on her treatment, with generous support from kind-hearted celebrities, actors, and individuals — yet the situation is getting worse.”
They had desperately called for help, saying, “At this point, we urgently need more financial assistance to keep her fighting. Any amount, any support, any share can make a difference. Please help us save a life. Thank you and God bless.”
Previous reports had indicated that the actress was pregnant while battling a liver-related ailment.
Her condition reportedly became critical, necessitating oxygen support in the hospital.
High-profile colleagues including Wumi Toriola, Mide Martins, and Afeez Owo had all previously joined the campaign to save her life before her unfortunate passing.
