Veteran Nollywood icon Omotola Jalade Ekeinde has finally cleared the air regarding the decades-old rumors of a bitter rivalry between her and fellow superstar Genevieve Nnaji, asserting that the two were never enemies.
During a recent interview on Yanga FM, a video of which surfaced on Instagram on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, Omotola explained that the narrative of a feud was almost entirely a product of media spin and fan obsession.
She noted that competitive storylines were forced upon them at the peak of their stardom, despite a total lack of personal animosity.
Addressing the situation in a mix of English and Pidgin, Omotola pointed out that they were merely the “test subjects” for the kind of fan-driven rivalries now seen in the music industry.
When asked if a long-standing rift existed before they starred together in the movie Ije, she responded:“People don’t need to be best friends, but we talked. Like behind film, we dey talk normally. You know the same thing that they do with all these music stars, na we dem take start all those things that time. Na we be the practice that time.”
She drew a comparison to modern-day music giants, stating: “You know all this Wizkid, Davido now that they have taken to different level, na we be the first one now. Really, na them start the quarrel before we know say we dey quarrel. So, we have to catch up with the quarrel. There was no quarrel.”
Omotola further highlighted how industry rankings and “hottest girl” comparisons created an artificial atmosphere of friction.
She noted, “We were young, everybody dey do hin own thing now you know how the industry is. You know, them go pitch you against this person, talk say na this one be the hottest girl, na that one be the hottest girl. So, those kind tension go dey normally, but people they read am as other things.”
Reaffirming her calm nature and their mutual preference for privacy, she added: “But people they read them as other things, but me, where you wan see me dey quarrel? I’ve never been somebody you can sit to quarrel with. I’m not always around and she sef she be that kind person, so where we wan see the quarrel?”
