In the wake of the National Assembly’s controversial decision to block mandatory electronic result transmission, former lawmaker Senator Shehu Sani has called on disgruntled Nigerians to direct their grievances toward their individual representatives.
On Wednesday, the Senate rejected a proposed amendment to Clause 60, Subsection 3 of the Electoral Amendment Bill, which would have legally mandated the real-time electronic transmission of election scores.
The decision has triggered a wave of public outcry, with many citizens accusing the leadership, particularly Senate President Godswill Akpabio, of attempting to pave the way for electoral manipulation in the upcoming general elections.

Conversely, some political figures have defended the Senate’s stance, arguing that potential “network glitches” could compromise a strictly electronic system.
Taking to his official X (formerly Twitter) account to address the fallout, Sani advised the public to move beyond criticizing only the Senate leadership.
He urged aggrieved Nigerians to “extend their displeasure to lawmakers representing them and stop focusing on the leaders,” emphasizing that every senator who participated in the decision should be held accountable by their own constituents.
He wrote, “The lawmakers have rejected the real-time electronic transmission of results.
“If you like what they did or you don’t like what they did, you should be courageous enough to go to the social media handle of the lawmaker representing your constituency and express your happiness or bitterness.
“Don’t focus on the President or Akpabio, who is just representing a district in Akwa Ibom. Be brave enough to mention your Senator by name on your handle. Everyone is an adult there. Thank you for your attention to this. matter”.
