In a major administrative shake-up on Thursday, February 12, 2026, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara dissolved the State Executive Council and dismissed all his Special Advisers.
The announcement, which was made in a Government Special Announcement in Port Harcourt, also introduced Mr. Onwuka Nzeshi as the new Chief Press Secretary (CPS).
He replaces the former CPS, Nelson Chukwudi, who was relieved of his duties without an official reason.
Governor Fubara directed all affected officials to hand over to their respective Permanent Secretaries or the most senior officers in their ministries with immediate effect.

According to the statement issued by Nzeshi:“His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, Governor of Rivers State, has dissolved the State Executive Council. His Excellency, the Governor, has therefore directed all Commissioners and Special Advisers to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries or the most Senior officers in their Ministries with immediate effect. His Excellency further expresses his deepest appreciation to the outgoing members of the Executive Council, wishing them the best in their future endeavours.”
This move is widely seen as a significant step in implementing the latest peace deal brokered by President Bola Tinubu between Governor Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
This marks the third time the President has intervened to resolve the ongoing friction between the Governor and his estranged political mentor.
As a result of this dissolution, Fubara is expected to submit a new list of commissioner nominees to the Martin Amaewhule-led House of Assembly.
Reports suggest that the new cabinet may include a mix of Wike’s loyalists—as part of the truce agreement—and some of the recently sacked commissioners who remained loyal to the Governor.
