15 Senators Who Voted For Mandatory Real-Time Transmission Of Election Results [FULL LIST]

On Tuesday, February 17, 2026, fifteen senators stood in opposition to the Senate’s resolution to keep a manual backup for the electronic transmission of election results.

The disagreement centered on Clause 60 of the Electoral Act Amendment Bill, specifically a proviso that allows for manual transmission if a network failure occurs.

The conflict escalated when Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe called for a division during the clause-by-clause review. Abaribe challenged the inclusion of Clause 60(3), demanding that results be transmitted strictly and mandatorily in real time, without any manual fallback.

Following a period of deadlock and an executive session, Senate President Godswill Akpabio moved the matter to a formal vote, remarking, “This is democracy in action.”

The final tally saw 55 senators voting to keep the manual fallback option, while 15 lawmakers remained firm in their demand for compulsory real-time electronic transmission. The fifteen senators who voted against the manual option are:

  • Enyinnaya Abaribe (ADC, Abia South)

  • Abdul Ningi (PDP, Bauchi Central)

  • Aminu Tambuwal (PDP, Sokoto South)

  • Ireti Kingibe (ADC, FCT)

  • Seriake Dickson (PDP, Bayelsa West)

  • Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central)

  • Onawo Ogwoshi (ADC, Nasarawa South)

  • Tony Nwoye (LP, Anambra North)

  • Victor Umeh (APGA, Anambra Central)

  • Ibrahim Dankwambo (PDP, Gombe Central)

  • Austin Akobundu (PDP, Abia Central)

  • Khalid Mustapha (PDP, Kaduna North)

  • Sikayo Yaro (PDP, Gombe South)

  • Emmanuel Nwachukwu (APGA, Anambra South)

  • Peter Jiya (PDP, Niger South)

This legislative outcome confirms that the Senate has upheld its stance: in the event of a network outage, manually signed result sheets will remain the primary source for determining election results.
