Sowore Reacts As Tinubu Signs Electoral Bill Into Law

Activist Omoyele Sowore has reacted to the signing of the electoral bill into law by President Bola Tinubu.

Tinubu has officially signed the Electoral Act, 2022 (Repeal and Re-Enactment) Bill 2026 into law.

The President’s assent on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, marks the final step in a legislative journey that saw the National Assembly pass the bill just one day prior.

The signing comes after months of intense deliberations regarding key provisions, including the controversial debate over the real-time electronic transmission of election results and the retention of manual backup options.

Sowore took to X to react to Tinubu’s move to sign the bill into law.

He wrote: Tinubu has now signed the 2026 “Electoral Act,” a law designed to undermine and ultimately forbid free, fair, and credible elections in Nigeria.

We must resist this assault on democracy.

They have dared the people.

Now we must confront them, WE must damn their impunity.
