Court Affirms Validity Of 2025 PDP Convention In Ibadan

The Oyo State High Court in Ibadan has officially confirmed that the 2025 Elective Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was valid, cementing Dr. Kabiru Turaki’s position as the party’s substantive National Chairman.

In a Friday ruling, Justice Ladiran Akintola supported the convention completely, stating it was held in alignment with the constitutional and statutory rules that govern party elections in Nigeria.

This judgment represents a major legal success for the leadership of the party and provides a clear resolution to the dispute over the convention’s legality.

The legal action stemmed from an amended originating summons submitted by Misibau Adetunmbi (SAN) for the claimant, Folahan Malomo Adelabi, under Suit No. I/1336/2025.

The court accepted all 13 reliefs requested by the claimant, which serves to endorse the entire process and the results of the Ibadan convention.

Justice Akintola determined that the convention was arranged by the party’s recognized leaders and met every legal requirement found in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Electoral Act 2022 (as amended), and the Electoral Act 2026.

The court ruled that no procedural errors or statutory violations occurred during the event.

Furthermore, the court dismissed a Motion on Notice intended to pause the proceedings or suspend the ruling, which had been filed by Sunday Ibrahim (SAN) for Austin Nwachukwu and two others.

The judge noted that these applications were without merit.

This followed an earlier decision in the case where the court turned down Ibrahim’s attempt to have his clients included in the suit, as Justice Akintola found the joinder application to be unsubstantiated.
