Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former Deputy Governor, Chief Benjamin Elue, who died at the age of 85, describing his death as a significant loss to both the state and the nation.
In a condolence message issued on Saturday in Asaba by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, Governor Oborevwori said Elue’s demise was received “with shock and pain, but with gratitude to God for a fulfilled life of service to Delta State and Nigeria.”
He described the late elder statesman as “a loyal patriot, experienced administrator, and committed party member whose contributions to the growth and stability of Delta State will remain indelible in its history.”
Chief Elue served as Deputy Governor under former Governor James Ibori from 1999 to 2007, a period noted by Oborevwori as pivotal in consolidating democratic governance during the early years of the Fourth Republic.
The governor recalled that Elue was widely admired for “his humility, dedication to duty, and unwavering loyalty to the administration he served,” adding that his calm demeanor and wisdom promoted unity and stability in Delta State.
Oborevwori also highlighted that “Chief Benjamin Elue was not only a distinguished politician but a respected teacher who devoted his life to mentoring younger generations.”
He described him as “a man of honour and integrity whose passionate service to Delta State will remain evergreen.”
The governor emphasized that Elue’s exemplary life and achievements, particularly as Deputy Governor, earned him “widespread respect across political divides.”
He acknowledged the late statesman’s steadfast commitment to Delta State’s unity and peace and said his contributions to the state’s development would not be forgotten.
Oborevwori extended heartfelt condolences to the Elue family, the people of Aniocha North, Delta North Senatorial District, and all citizens of Delta State over what he termed an irreparable loss, praying that God grants the departed elder statesman eternal rest and comfort to those he left behind.
