The rankings use a PowerIndex score where a lower score indicates a more formidable military (a perfect score being 0.0000). Here are the top 10 countries with the strongest militaries in the world for 2026.

  • Key Strength: The U.S. remains the world’s top military power, a position it has held since 2005. Its dominance is fueled by an unmatched defense budget, cutting-edge technology, and a massive global footprint.
