The Court of Appeal in Ibadan has indefinitely adjourned an appeal concerning the dispute over the PDP’s 2025 National Convention, following indications that the feuding factions may reach an out-of-court settlement.
The legal battle involves a faction led by Alhaji Tanimu Turaki, who emerged as National Chairman during the Ibadan convention, and a rival group led by Alhaji Mohammed AbdulRahman, which reportedly has the backing of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
While a Federal High Court in Ibadan had previously invalidated the convention’s outcome, a separate ruling by Justice Ladiran Akintola of the Oyo State High Court had maintained that the event “fulfilled the requirements of PDP’s constitution and the Electoral Act.”

During Wednesday’s proceedings, the three-member appellate panel, headed by Justice Biobele Georgewill, sought updates on the reconciliation efforts.
Counsel for both the PDP and the AbdulRahman faction confirmed that “efforts are ongoing among the parties to settle the matter in principle” and that clients are “amenable to settlement.”
Justice Georgewill decided to suspend the case indefinitely to allow for these discussions, but warned that “the INEC timetable on the 2027 election won’t wait for them.”
He emphasized that “settlement is give and take,” urging the legal teams to guide their clients because “the success or otherwise of the settlement would determine the fate of the party.”
The court noted that had the parties not pursued an amicable resolution, the suit might have been transferred to join related matters in Abuja.
The parties are now required to notify the court once they have finalized their “terms of settlement or otherwise.”
