Morocco was dramatically handed the title on Tuesday after an appeals panel overturned ’s earlier win in a chaotic January final.
The announced that its appeal board ruled Senegal had forfeited the final, meaning their 1-0 extra-time victory was converted into a 3-0 win for Morocco.
During the Jan. 18 final in Rabat, Senegal players walked off the pitch for about 15 minutes in protest during stoppage time, while fans attempted to invade the field after Morocco was awarded a penalty.
When the match resumed, Brahim Díaz missed the spot kick, and Senegal went on to score the decisive goal in extra time.
Initially, CAF issued over $1 million in fines and handed bans to players and officials from both teams but did not change the result.
However, the case could still be taken further to the for another appeal.
