In response to the nationwide surge in petrol prices, Governor Seyi Makinde has approved a ₦10,000 monthly transportation support fund for Oyo State civil servants, set to run for an initial three-month period.
The Governor announced the relief package during a stakeholder engagement and disbursement program held at the Fashola Agribusiness Hub in Oyo.
According to the Governor, the intervention is a strategic move to address the “prevailing economic pressures” and the rising cost of commuting, which threatens workers’ welfare.
He emphasized that the measure aims to “cushion the financial burden” on the workforce while maintaining high levels of service delivery across government agencies.
“This support is a direct response to the realities our workers are facing,” Governor Makinde stated, adding, “We understand that transportation costs have gone up significantly, and as a government, we must act to ease that burden.”
The initiative is part of the broader Sustainable Action for Economic Recovery (SAfER) framework, which focuses on worker-friendly policies.
The event also included the distribution of funds under the Youth Entrepreneurship in Agribusiness Project (YEAP) to boost local livelihoods.
Stakeholders at the gathering praised the move as a “timely intervention” for workers currently “grappling with inflationary pressures.”
The ₦10,000 monthly payments are scheduled to “take effect from March,” with specific disbursement details to be released through official government channels shortly.
