Kano State Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo has officially resigned from his position.
His spokesperson, Ibrahim Shuaibu, confirmed the news on Friday, stating, “Yes, it is true. The deputy governor has resigned from his position,” though he did not provide further details regarding the move.
The resignation follows a period of intense pressure from the Kano State House of Assembly, which had recently initiated impeachment proceedings against Gwarzo.
The lawmakers leveled several allegations against him, including “gross misconduct, abuse of office, and breach of public trust,” primarily centered on his previous role overseeing the Ministry for Local Government.

This administrative exit comes in the wake of a major political realignment after Governor Abba Yusuf’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Following the governor’s move, several changes were made within the cabinet, including the removal of the Head of Service and the Commissioner for Investment.
Prior to the resignation, some government officials had publicly suggested that Gwarzo step down, with the Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Waiya, stating, “In government, things are done based on trust, and you can’t trust someone who is not with you.”
With the seat now vacant, the state will begin the constitutional process of appointing a successor, a move that requires the formal approval of the State House of Assembly.
