The Kabiru Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has approached the Supreme Court to stop the rival group loyal to Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), from holding its scheduled national convention.
The Wike-aligned faction has set its convention for March 29 and 30, 2026.
In response, the Turaki-led group filed an appeal on Friday, March 27, 2026, seeking to restrain them.
This legal move follows a recent judgment from the Court of Appeal, which upheld an earlier ruling that nullified the Turaki faction’s own national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, in November 2025.

In its appeal to the apex court, the Turaki-led PDP argued that both the Court of Appeal and the Federal High Court overstepped their bounds, insisting that they “lack jurisdiction over the matter.”
The leadership crisis has seen both sides claiming legitimacy.
While the Turaki camp maintains that their Ibadan convention was valid, the Wike-led faction has dismissed them, with Wike recently stating that the “PDP Convention will go on, Turaki NWC doesn’t exist.”
The dispute has now reached the highest court in the land as the Turaki faction seeks a stay of execution to prevent the Wike group from electing a new National Working Committee (NWC) this weekend.
