Kwankwaso To Join ADC On Monday

Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and a former Governor of Kano State, is expected to formally join the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Monday, March 30, 2026.

Insiders told DAILY NIGERIAN that this significant move follows several weeks of extensive consultations between Kwankwaso, his Kwankwasiyya movement, and the top leadership of the ADC.

In the lead-up to this transition, the former presidential candidate has been involved in several high-level meetings with ADC stakeholders and other prominent opposition figures. Just last week, he concluded a series of strategic consultations in Kano State.

His recent talks have included key political players such as Rauf Aregbesola, the ADC National Secretary; Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate; Seyi Makinde, the Governor of Oyo State; and Senator Seriake Dickson, representing Bayelsa West.

Sources indicate that the realignment is a strategic effort to consolidate opposition forces ahead of the 2027 general elections with the specific goal of defeating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

This major political shift comes in the wake of a public falling-out between Kwankwaso and his former protégé, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. Governor Yusuf, often called Kwankwaso’s political godson, recently led a mass defection from the NNPP to the APC, along with several lawmakers and appointees.

Kwankwaso has expressed strong opposition to this move, describing the Governor’s exit from the Kwankwasiyya fold as a “betrayal.”
