Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, the former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has officially defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
The former Minister of Defence completed his registration and received his membership card on Monday, March 30, 2026, at Gidan Kwankwasiyya, located on Miller Road in Bompai, Kano.
The former governor also took to his X (formerly Twitter) handle to announce the transition to his followers. In a brief post, he declared, “New Dawn. We are ADC.”

The high-profile event was attended by prominent leaders of the ADC and a massive gathering of supporters, primarily from the Kwankwasiyya Movement.
Among the notable figures present were the ADC National Chairman and former Senate President, David Mark, as well as the party’s National Secretary and former Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola.
The ceremony also saw the attendance of other significant political figures, including former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, former Sokoto State Governor Senator Aminu Tambuwal, and former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi. Other attendees included Senator Dino Melaye, former APC National Chairman Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, and former Imo State Governor Emeka Ihedioha.
