Bauchi Governor Hints At Defection To ADC, Set For Declaration Thursday

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, who also chairs the PDP Governors’ Forum, has indicated that the African Democratic Congress is his preferred destination as he considers defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party.

Speaking after a meeting with an ADC delegation led by Babachir Lawal, the governor explained that his move is prompted by the failure of reconciliation efforts within his current party.

He stated, “I have done everything possible to ensure reconciliation, but it has not worked. We set up committees at both the national and state levels to explore all options, including even the All Progressives Congress, but sadly, we discovered that we are not wanted there.”

While Mohammed confirmed that discussions are ongoing with various political platforms, he noted that the ADC has emerged as the most viable choice for his political future.

He remarked, “As of now, ADC appears to be a very welcoming and acceptable platform. However, we have not concluded discussions. We are engaging stakeholders to ensure we do not make mistakes.”

The governor is expected to make a formal announcement regarding his final decision by Thursday, noting, “Everything will be concluded by Thursday so that we can move forward together. You will hear a firm commitment from us.”

The governor also pointed to external interference as a major factor in the PDP’s instability, specifically naming the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, as a contributor to the crisis.

On the other side of the negotiations, Babachir Lawal explained that the ADC is seeking to unite opposition forces to provide an alternative leadership for the country.

Lawal noted, “The task of rescuing Nigeria in 2027 requires the unity of all well-meaning Nigerians. We are here to engage Governor Bala Mohammed because of his leadership qualities and political experience.”
