El-Rufai was driven into the court premises around 9:00 am and stepped out of the vehicle at 9:05 am, under the watchful eyes of security personnel and onlookers.

Wednesday’s proceedings follow a stalled session on Tuesday, which was disrupted by a series of legal maneuvers from the defense team.

The previous day’s hearing was interrupted after the defense filed a motion asking the presiding judge, Justice Rilwan M. Aikawa, to recuse himself due to allegations of bias and a pending petition.

In a sudden turn of events, the defense later filed a separate motion to withdraw that initial request for the judge to step aside.

These conflicting applications led to intense legal debates between both sides, resulting in procedural delays. The situation grew more complex when the prosecution submitted a counter-affidavit opposing El-Rufai’s bail, leaving the defense with little time to review and respond to the new documents.

Consequently, Justice Aikawa adjourned the case until Wednesday.

To ensure order during the high-profile hearing, armed security operatives have been strategically stationed around the court to monitor activities and restrict unauthorized movement.
