Tony Okocha, a prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC), has sparked widespread debate after admitting that election results were sometimes fabricated and handed to electoral officers for public announcement during his time in office.
Speaking at a press conference, Okocha who is the party Chairman in Rivers claimed that election outcomes were occasionally pre-determined and drafted behind closed doors before being presented to the electoral commission for formal declaration.
“Elections could be written inside the chief of staff’s office. It was done so in my time; we did so. We write the result and hand it over to the commission; their business is to go and announce,” Okocha stated.
These comments have gained significant traction on social media, particularly following a viral video on X (formerly Twitter).
The revelation has reignited concerns regarding the transparency of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the overall integrity of Nigeria’s democratic process.
