Nkeiruka Onyejeocha has officially resigned from her position as the Minister of State for Labour and Employment, marking the third cabinet departure following President Bola Tinubu’s recent directive.
The President had previously instructed all appointees harboring elective ambitions for 2027 to vacate their offices, leading to Onyejeocha’s announcement on Friday, April 3, 2026.
Her resignation comes just three days after the March 31 deadline set by the presidency.
In a resignation letter shared across her social media platforms, the former minister expressed her gratitude to the President, the Federal Executive Council, and the Nigerian public.
“This period marks the end of a significant chapter in my journey of service as I formally resign as Honourable Minister of State for Labour and Employment,” she wrote.

Reflecting on her tenure, she described the role as a privilege and thanked the ministry staff for their “dedication, professionalism, and partnership,” noting that their collective work helped “strengthen workers’ rights, enhance workplace safety, and broaden employment opportunities.”
Onyejeocha, who represented the Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency of Abia State in the House of Representatives for sixteen years, also extended her thanks to her constituents for their long-term support.
While she did not specify which elective office she intends to seek in 2027, she signaled her continued involvement in politics, stating, “As one chapter closes, another opens. I remain committed to service, to progress, and to building the Nigeria we all deserve.”
Her exit follows the earlier resignations of Transportation Minister Said Alkali, who is eyeing the Gombe State governorship, and Foreign Affairs Minister Yusuf Tuggar, who is expected to enter the race for the Bauchi State governorship.
As more cabinet members step down to align with the President’s directive, the focus shifts toward how these vacancies will impact the administration’s momentum heading into the mid-term of the 2027 election cycle.
