Dr. Chiogo Constance Ikokwu, a prominent anchor and analyst with Arise News, has officially announced her departure from journalism to transition into the political landscape.
Well-known for her commitment to accountability and public interest, Ikokwu explained that her shift was prompted by witnessing significant governance gaps and her conviction that skilled professionals must play a more active role in nation-building.
She emphasized that individuals of integrity should move beyond observation to take a direct hand in leadership.
Aiming to represent the Idemili North and South Federal Constituency, she plans to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives.
Regarding this new chapter, she stated:“This transition is, for me, a continuation of service, just on a different platform. I have had the privilege of telling the stories that shape our nation, holding power to account, amplifying underrepresented voices, and helping citizens make sense of complex issues.”
Ikokwu noted that her extensive media career provided her with a profound understanding of the country’s systemic hurdles.
She described her move into politics as a natural evolution of her professional values, saying:“It has reinforced my belief that informed, ethical leadership is essential to progress. It is from this vantage point that I have made the difficult but necessary decision to step into the political arena.”
She further highlighted that her years as a journalist allowed her to witness the daily hardships and hopes of ordinary Nigerians firsthand, which will serve as the foundation for her legislative ambitions.
