Latest Cooking Gas Price Across Nigeria – Monday, April 13, 2026

Cooking gas prices across Nigeria remain high this Monday, April 13, 2026, as the market continues to react to the recent 14.3% price hike that took effect earlier this month.

The increase, which saw the national average rise from ₦1,300 to ₦1,500 per kilogram, is being attributed to a sharp rise in ex-depot costs and limited local supply.

Current Retail Prices (Average per Cylinder)

Refilling costs have hit new levels at retail outlets on the streets:

  • 3kg Refill: ₦4,500 – ₦4,800

  • 5kg Refill: ₦7,500 – ₦8,000

  • 12.5kg Refill: ₦18,750 – ₦20,000+

Depot Prices and Supply

The hike is primarily driven by the “depot factor.” The ex-depot price for 20 metric tonnes of gas recently jumped from ₦18 million to ₦21 million. Major depots like Rainoil, Nipco, and Mobil have all adjusted their rates accordingly.

While the Dangote Refinery is offering gas at a significantly cheaper rate—around ₦16 million per 20 metric tonnes—marketers note that supply from the refinery remains “limited.” Dangote recently revealed that the refinery is currently receiving only five out of the 13 crude oil allocations it requires, which has slowed down the production and distribution of cooking gas to the domestic market.

Regional Price Variations

The price you pay today depends heavily on your distance from the coastal depots:

  • Lagos and Ogun: Rates are slightly more competitive, with some gas plants selling at ₦1,400 per kg, though street retailers typically charge ₦1,500.

  • Abuja and North-Central: Prices are steady at ₦1,500 per kg, with total costs for a 12.5kg cylinder averaging ₦18,750.

  • Far North (Sokoto/Maiduguri): Due to inland transportation costs and the current high price of diesel for tankers, some residents are reporting prices as high as ₦1,650 per kg.
