Tinubu Nominates Tegbe As Power Minister

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Joseph Tegbe as the new Minister of Power, pending Senate confirmation.

The announcement was made on Thursday in a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to the release, “His nomination is expected to strengthen further ongoing efforts to reform the power sector, enhance grid stability, and attract sustainable investment in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.”

Tegbe, an expert in economic and fiscal reform from Oyo State, brings over 30 years of professional experience to the role.

He is well-known for his former position as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa. Currently, he serves as the Director General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership.

His resume also includes serving as the Chairman of the National Tax Policy Implementation Committee since 2025.

The Presidency highlighted his deep background in the energy industry, noting his previous work with the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET).

The statement added, “The President expects the Minister-Designate, upon confirmation, to bring his extensive expertise to bear to advance critical reforms and deliver improved outcomes for Nigerians in the power sector.”

This nomination follows the resignation of the former minister, Adebayo Adelabu, in March 2026.

Adelabu stepped down to focus on his 2027 governorship bid in Oyo State, complying with the President’s directive for political appointees seeking elective office to resign.

Adelabu noted that his exit was necessary to follow “due process and party guidelines as he prepared to return to active partisan politics ahead of the 2027 polls.”
