The Nigerian entertainment industry is mourning the loss of veteran Yoruba Nollywood actor Taiwo Adeshina, widely known as Elegbeje Ado.
His passing was confirmed by fellow actor Kunle Afod, who shared a tribute on Instagram this Tuesday.
In his post, Afod wrote, “We regret to announce the passing of one of the legends of the Yoruba Nollywood industry, Baba Elegbeje Ado.”
He further added, “Your immense contribution to the growth of Yoruba cinema, your talent, and the joy you brought to countless lives will never be forgotten. Thank you for the beautiful memories and the legacy you left behind. May your soul rest in perfect peace. Our heartfelt condolences go to your family, friends, colleagues, and fans during this difficult time. Rest in peace, Baba Elegbeje Ado. Your legacy lives on forever.”
Although reports indicate that Adeshina died on Monday, June 29, following a brief illness, the specific circumstances surrounding his death have not been independently verified.
Adeshina enjoyed a career spanning over two decades, gaining fame for his portrayals of traditional rulers, community elders, and various culturally significant characters.
His stage name, “Elegbeje Ado,” originated from one of his most iconic roles, which earned him deep respect among Yoruba cinema enthusiasts.
Beyond his cinematic career, Adeshina was a dedicated Christian minister who balanced his work in the arts with his pastoral duties.
His passing follows the recent death of Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo, who died on May 11, 2026, at age 40, after a “brief but courageous battle” with complications from advanced metastatic kidney cancer.
