In a major relief package for public servants, the Federal Government has sanctioned a ₦70,000 monthly transport intervention for workers across all cadres for a six-month duration starting in November 2026, following successful conciliation talks with the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

The landmark resolution was finalized during a high-level meeting organized by the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment in Abuja on Tuesday, October 27, aimed at resolving pressing labor grievances.

Alongside the transit support, authorities signed off on clearing accrued peculiar allowance backlogs backdated to May 1, 2026, with disbursements scheduled to roll out in three equal monthly tranches beginning November.

However, both delegations reached a deadlock regarding the precise commencement date for the new national minimum wage structure, though they concurred that the Minimum Wage Negotiation Committee must convene immediately to iron out details.

These outcomes were officially outlined in a communiqué released by the Ministry of Labour and Employment following the session, which was presided over by Labour Minister Dr. Muhammad Maigari Dingyadi, alongside NLC President Joe Ajaero leading the union delegation.

Detailing the mobility relief, the official communique noted that the Federal Government “will pay a transport intervention of Seventy Thousand Naira (₦70,000) across all levels for a period of six (6) months, commencing from November 2026.”

Regarding peculiar allowances, officials authorized retroactive compensation from May 1, 2026, ensuring the accumulated sums are fully settled over three consecutive months starting November.

Addressing long-standing health sector grievances, the government declared that “Nineteen (19) months arrears of allowances for health workers will be redeemed within three (3) months with effect from December 2026.”

Pertaining to agricultural personnel hazard pay, the ministry revealed that the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has transmitted the beneficiary register and financial requirements to the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC) for audit.

This verification exercise is slated for completion within a fortnight, paving the way for NSIWC to release an operational payout template.

Deliberations also touched on revising the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS), with NSIWC committing to finalize updated cost projections within three weeks for review by the Presidential Committee on Salaries.

On worker tax concessions, leadership determined that the matter falls under statutory legislation and will consequently be referred to the National Economic Council for policy consideration.

Tuesday’s dialogue builds upon a previous conciliatory interface held on October 22, directly responding to resolutions passed by the NLC’s Central Working Committee and National Executive Council.

Both government representatives and labor leaders agreed to meet again in one month to evaluate progress and monitor the implementation of all signed agreements.

Furthermore, the joint panel called on state and local government administrations to replicate the intervention program within their jurisdictions, encouraging trade unions to advocate for local execution.
