Recent Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon have killed at least seven high-ranking Hezbollah commanders and officials, including the group’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah, who was assassinated in a strike on his underground headquarters in Beirut last Friday.
These strikes have inflicted the most significant blow to the Iran-backed militant group since its inception in the early 1980s.

Fu’ad Shukr
Shukr, Hezbollah’s most senior military official and a key member of the jihad council, was regarded as the right-hand man of the group’s leader, Hassan Nasrallah.
Before his death, the U.S. government had offered a $5 million reward for information leading to his capture. He was killed in a drone strike in the southern suburbs of Beirut.
September 20, 2024
Ibrahim Aqil
Aqil was the top commander and founder of Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Force. He had a $7 million bounty on his head from the U.S., linked to his suspected role in the 1983 attacks on the U.S. Embassy and Marine barracks in Beirut.
He was assassinated along with several other commanders at a residential building in the Dahiyeh neighborhood of southern Beirut.
Ahmad Wehbe
Wehbe, a senior commander in Hezbollah’s Radwan Force, was killed alongside Aqil in Beirut’s Dahiyeh district.

Ibrahim Kobeissi
Kobeissi, who led Hezbollah’s missile unit, was killed by an airstrike in the southern suburbs of Beirut.

Mohammad Surour
Surour headed Hezbollah’s newly established drone unit, overseeing drone and cruise missile attacks on Israel from Lebanon. He was killed in a strike in Beirut.

Hassan Nasrallah
Nasrallah took over as Hezbollah’s leader in 1992 following the assassination of his predecessor, Abbas Musawi, in an Israeli helicopter strike.
Under his leadership, Hezbollah evolved into a significant political force in Lebanon.
He was killed in an Israeli airstrike targeting the group’s underground headquarters in southern Beirut, where 20 other Hezbollah members were also present.

Nabil Qaouk
Qaouk, who served as Commander of Hezbollah’s Preventive Security Unit and was a member of its central council, was designated a global terrorist by the US in October 2020 and sanctioned. He was killed during an Israeli raid in the Chyah area on the outskirts of Beirut.
