A Federal High Court in Abuja has ruled that the Labour Party’s national convention, held on March 27, 2024, in Nnewi, is valid, constitutional, and compliant with Nigerian law.

This announcement was made by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, in a statement on Tuesday.

Justice Emeka Nwite, in his ruling, also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize the Labour Party’s National Working Committee, led by Barrister Julius Abure.

It’s worth noting that party stakeholders, including 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi and Abia State Governor Alex Otti, had convened in Umuahia to establish an interim leadership.

Senator Nanedi Usman, appointed as the head of a 29-member committee, has been tasked with organizing congresses from the ward level to the state level, culminating in a national convention to elect a permanent national executive.
