In the meantime, there are ways to relieve the pain while you wait for your appointment.

Visit a dentist if you have a toothache that:

– Persists for more than 2 days
– Does not improve with painkillers
– Is accompanied by a high temperature, pain when biting, red gums, or a bad taste in your mouth
– Causes swelling in your cheek or jaw

How to Ease Toothache While Waiting for Your Appointment

Do

– Take pain relievers such as ibuprofen or paracetamol (avoid aspirin for children under 16); consult a pharmacist for guidance.

– Apply a pain-relieving gel for oral use, available at pharmacies or supermarkets.

– Rinse your mouth with warm salt water (not recommended for children).

– Consume soft foods like yogurt or scrambled eggs, and avoid chewing on the affected side.

– Use a soft toothbrush and refrain from flossing around the sore tooth.

Don’t

– Avoid foods that are sweet, extremely hot, or very cold.

– Refrain from smoking, as it can exacerbate dental issues.

How to Rinse with Salt Water

1. Dissolve half a teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water; the warmth helps the salt dissolve.
2. Rinse your mouth with the solution and then spit it out—do not swallow.
3. You can repeat this as often as needed.

*Note: Children should avoid rinsing with salt water to prevent swallowing.*
