Super Eagles Stranded In Libya

Nigeria’s senior men’s football team is currently stranded in Libya as they prepare for the second leg of the AFCON 2025 Qualifier.

After Nigeria’s 1-0 victory over Libya in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, both teams were set to compete again in Benina for their fourth Group D match.

The Super Eagles flew to Libya on Sunday afternoon, but an hour before landing in Benghazi, their flight was redirected to Al Abraq, a city over two hours away from their intended destination.

Now, the players and officials must travel by road to Benghazi for the match.

Videos from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) show the team at a Libyan airport, attempting to address the situation.

The Libyan authorities did not arrange transportation for the Super Eagles, prompting the NFF to seek alternatives, which were reportedly hindered by local complications, including a locked airport gate that blocked their bus from entering.
