According to the latest data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) collectively generated N2.43 trillion in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in 2023.
This marks a 26.03% increase from the N1.93 trillion recorded in 2022.

The data reveals that Taraba recorded the lowest IGR among the states in 2023, followed by Yobe and Kebbi.
Here is a breakdown of the 10 states with the lowest IGR in 2023:
- Taraba — N10.87 billion
- Yobe — N11.19 billion
- Kebbi — N11.74 billion
- Gombe — N15.18 billion
- Adamawa — N17.07 billion
- Sokoto — N17.96 billion
- Benue — N19.12 billion
- Borno — N19.45 billion
- Bayelsa — N19.82 billion
- Imo — N21.05 billion
Among these, five of the six North-East states appear, along with two from the North-West, and one each from the North-Central, South-East, and South-South regions.
No South-West state is on this list.
