Eguavoen Takes Decision After Boniface Underwhelming Performances

The Super Eagles concluded their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Group D qualification campaign with a surprising 2-1 loss to Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State on Monday.

Samuel Chukwueze put Nigeria ahead in the 59th minute, sparking joy among the home fans.

However, Rwanda responded with Aimable Mutinzi’s equalizer in the 72nd minute, and Imanishimwe Nshuti sealed the comeback victory for Rwanda with a goal in the 75th minute.

Despite the defeat, the Super Eagles had already secured their place in next year’s tournament in Morocco, having finished top of the group with 11 points.

In his post-match comments, Eguavoen acknowledged that Boniface’s underwhelming performances have been a concern but reaffirmed that the forward remains an important part of the team.

When asked about Boniface’s struggles to adapt to the Super Eagles setup, Eguavoen recognized the challenges but emphasized his confidence in the player’s potential.
