Former President Olusegun Obasanjo hosted former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso and former Cross River State Governor Donald Duke on Saturday in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.

While the details of their discussions remain unclear, it is likely that their meeting was related to the 2027 general elections and the political dynamics surrounding it.

Kwankwaso, who was the presidential candidate for the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in the 2023 election, shared the news of the meeting in a post on his X account late Saturday night.

He confirmed that the gathering took place at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL) residence in Ogun State.

According to him, they deliberated on “significant national issues, including the future of politics and governance in Nigeria.”

“I was pleased to be in the company of my friend, HE Donald Duke, and other associates to pay a courtesy call on President Olusegun Obasanjo at his residence in Abeokuta.

“Deliberations on significant national issues, including the future of politics and governance in Nigeria defined the conversation. We are grateful to Baba for his warm support and hospitality.”

This isn’t the first time Kwankwaso has met with the former president.

Last month, Obasanjo, along with other prominent political and business figures, visited Kano to attend the wedding of Kwankwaso’s daughter.

At the event, he was seen wearing a red cap, a symbol of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, as he was welcomed by the bride’s father and the state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf.
