Shehu Sani, a former Kaduna Central Senator, has criticised Dangote Petroleum Refinery for raising the price of Premium Motor Spirit, better known as petrol.

Dangote Refinery announced an increase in petrol prices for its customers in a statement issued on Friday.

According to the refinery, marketers purchasing between two million and 4.99 million litres would now pay N955 per litre, while those purchasing five million litres or more will pay N950 per litre at the loading gantry.

The new price regime went into effect at 5:30 p.m. on Friday and affects any stock balances that have not been lifted by the deadline.

Pending stock will also be repriced at the new rates.

Dealers acknowledged that PMS prices would continue to grow because crude oil, a main component in fuel manufacture, has been rising recently.

The modification has resulted in a retail price increase, with fuel currently priced between N1,050 and N1,150 per litre, depending on the area of purchase.

Sani responded to the incident in a post on his X Twitter on Saturday, saying Nigerians expected the Dangote refinery to reduce fuel prices.

The former congressman voiced unhappiness with the refinery’s price increase, emphasising that it was puzzling.

He wrote, “The expectation was that Dangote Refinery will crash the price of petrol; the news that it’s increasing is baffling.”
