What Transpired When INEC Tenderd BVAS Machine Before Edo Election Tribunal

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) presented the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machines before the Edo State governorship election tribunal in Abuja.

Anthony Itodo, a senior technical officer from INEC’s ICT department, who appeared before the tribunal under subpoena issued on January 9, stated that he brought a total of 148 BVAS devices from 133 polling units.

PDP’s counsel, Robert Emukpoeruo, raised concerns about discrepancies in the number of devices and suggested they should be verified.

Itodo clarified that some polling units had two BVAS devices.

Defense lawyers for Governor Monday Okpebolor, Onyechi Ikpeazu, and Emmanuel Ukala for the APC argued that the issue of the BVAS machines should not be blown out of proportion.

To address the matter, INEC’s counsel, Kanu Agabi, confirmed that although there were 151 units, only 148 of them were requested for the BVAS and were related to the election.

Emukpoeruo then requested that the BVAS machines be admitted as evidence, a motion which was opposed by the defendants.

Nonetheless, the panel accepted the machines as evidence.
