Many Killed As Suspected Herdsmen Attack Ebonyi Community

On Sunday, suspected herdsmen attacked the Amegu Nkalaha Community in the Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, resulting in an unknown number of fatalities and the destruction of several houses by fire.

The Ebonyi State Police Command spokesperson, SP Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the incident, stating that police forces have been deployed to the area.

He mentioned that investigations are ongoing to determine the exact number of casualties.

The chairperson of Ishielu LGA, Ifeoma Agwu, also confirmed the attack, noting that the process of recovering bodies and transporting them to the morgue is still underway, which has made it difficult to confirm the exact death toll at this time.

While the motive behind the attack is still being investigated, some residents speculated that it might be related to the recent killing of herdsmen’s cows in the area.

A local source, who wished to remain anonymous, claimed that members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN) were responsible for killing the cows in the forest.

The source also mentioned that tensions have been high in the community following the incident, with efforts being made to prevent further retaliatory violence.
