Olabode George, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Board of Trustees, has expressed his support for his colleagues’ decision to recognize Sunday Ude-Okoye as the party’s National Secretary.
There has been a dispute between Ude-Okoye and Samuel Anyanwu over the position, with both men claiming the role.
Following a meeting of the Board of Trustees on Wednesday, they called on the party’s national working committee to swear in Ude-Okoye as the official National Secretary immediately.

George, speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, explained that their decision to support Ude-Okoye was based on the Court of Appeal’s ruling, which affirmed him as the legitimate National Secretary of the PDP.
“So far, the facts that they brought, I am completely on board with that. What do you expect the elders to do? The report was clear that there was no counter Court of Appeal report apart from the one from Okoye.
“So, what do you expect us to do? If Anyanwu decides to go to the Supreme Court and the Supreme Court throws out that decision of the Court of Appeal, we will abide by that,” George said.
The former deputy national chairman of the PDP, Olabode George, urged Samuel Anyanwu to step aside and allow peace to prevail, enabling the party to concentrate on its duties as the opposition.
George acknowledged the internal crisis within the PDP but asserted that, despite this, the party remains more organized than the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
He expressed confidence that the PDP would not collapse, stating that the party’s foundation remains strong and intact.
“If the taproot of the Iroko tree is still deep-rooted, only the wind that is blowing the tree at the top. We are going to resolve it. I believe in the resolution,” he said.
George emphasized that the PDP is not the personal property of any individual and urged all factions to remain calm.
He also called on those overly focused on personal ambitions to leave the party.
