Nigeria’s First Lady Elected OAFLAD Steering Committee Member

Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has been elected as a member of the Steering Committee of the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD).

She was elected on Saturday during the 29th Ordinary General Assembly of the organization in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Sierra Leone’s First Lady, Fatima Bio, was chosen as OAFLAD President, while Angola’s First Lady, Ana Lorenzo, was elected Vice President.

Mrs. Tinubu will serve as one of the two West African representatives on the eight-member steering committee. Other countries elected to the committee include Sierra Leone, Angola, Malawi, Kenya, Ethiopia, Equatorial Guinea, and Congo.

The election took place alongside the 38th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union Heads of State and Government, held from February 13 to 16.

OAFLAD is made up of the spouses of African heads of state and government from 24 African nations.

Mrs. Tinubu congratulated Bio and reaffirmed her commitment to advancing educational opportunities for women and girls in Africa. OAFLAD’s Secretary-General and outgoing President, Nardos Berhanu, as well as Namibia’s First Lady, Monica Geingos, also congratulated Mrs. Tinubu and the newly elected members.
