Tinubu Told To Stop Osun LG Election

Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, has urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene and prevent Governor Ademola Adeleke from going ahead with the local government election set for Saturday.

In an interview with journalists in Osogbo on Thursday, Oyintiloye warned that proceeding with the election could lead to violence in the state.

Despite the political unrest stemming from the takeover of local government secretariats by APC-elected chairmen, the state government has insisted on moving forward with the election.

Oyintiloye argued that, following the Court of Appeal’s reinstatement of the APC chairmen and councillors, there is no leadership vacuum at the local councils, and holding the election would therefore be unnecessary and disruptive.

He also expressed concern about the recent violence in the state, highlighting that six people were killed and many others injured in various council areas on Monday.

“The state government must not endanger the lives of residents in the name of politics. It should instead seek redress at the Supreme Court if it is dissatisfied with the Court of Appeal’s judgment,” Oyintiloye stated.

He also commended security agencies for their swift intervention in restoring peace but maintained that the proposed election could heighten tensions.

“I appeal to President Tinubu to prevail on Governor Adeleke to suspend the election in the interest of security.

“All we want in Osun is peace, and anything that threatens the state’s stability must be avoided,” he said.

Oyintiloye also called on Governor Adeleke to uphold the rule of law, reminding him that it was through the judicial process that he was elected to office.

“The primary duty of any government is the protection of lives and property. Governor Adeleke must not allow anything that could lead to bloodshed,” he added.

In offering his condolences to the families of the victims of the recent violence, Oyintiloye assured that APC members in the state would continue to be law-abiding and uphold constitutional measures to protect the lives and property of Osun residents.
