How Ex-NDDC MD Accused Akpabio Of Sexual Harassment In 2020

Senate President Godswill Akpabio is once again at the center of controversy over allegations of sexual harassment.

For weeks, Akpabio has been embroiled in a dispute with Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker from Kogi State.

However, the situation escalated when she appeared on a live television program, accusing him of demanding sexual favors in exchange for recognition to speak during plenary sessions.

Interestingly, this is not the first time Akpabio has faced such accusations. Nearly five years ago, while serving as the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Joy Nunieh, the former Acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), also accused him of sexual harassment.

Coincidentally, Nunieh made her claims on the same television station where Senator Natasha aired her allegations.

“Why did he not tell Nigerians that I slapped him in his guest house at Apo? I am the only Ogoni woman, the only Nigerian woman that has slapped him. I slapped him because of his plan B. Since he couldn’t get me to take that money, he thought that he could come up on me.

“He didn’t know that I’m a Port Harcourt girl. Port Harcourt girls are not moved by money…by somebody telling me that he will make me the substantive MD. Akpabio’s meetings with me were either at Apo or Meridien…Yes, I am accusing him of sexual harassment.”

In response, Akpabio claimed that Nunieh had temperament issues and even suggested that she seek medical attention.

He clarified that her removal from office was not due to corruption but rather insubordination.

Additionally, he denied all allegations against him.
