Court To Hear Motion Seeking To Strike Out Defection Suit Against Rivers Lawmakers

A Federal High Court in Port Harcourt will hear a motion to dismiss the Labour Party’s (LP) defection lawsuit against Martin Amaewhule and 26 other Rivers State House of Assembly members on Monday.

The Assembly’s lawyer argues the Supreme Court’s February 28, 2025 ruling resolved the issues, and the Federal High Court must comply.

The LP’s lawyer argues the Supreme Court ruling didn’t address the defection issue, which is under the Federal High Court’s jurisdiction.

The court will hear the motion to dismiss before considering the main lawsuit.

The hearing is set for Monday, March 17, 2025, at 2:00 pm.
