First Country To Qualify For 2026 World Cup Emerge

Japan has secured its place in the 2026 World Cup, becoming the first team globally to qualify.

They achieved this by defeating Bahrain 2-0 in Saitama on Thursday, with goals from Daichi Kamada and Takefusa Kuba.

This victory, their sixth in seven matches, guarantees Japan a top-two finish in their Asian qualifying group, securing their spot in the expanded 48-team tournament.

Asia will have eight representatives at the World Cup, in addition to the three host nations. This marks Japan’s eighth consecutive World Cup appearance since their debut in 1998, with their best results being four appearances in the round of 16.

The Japanese women’s national team has seen greater success, winning the 2011 World Cup and reaching the final in 2015.
