Natasha Issues Apology To Ezekwesili Over Clash With Nwaebonyi

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has issued an apology to former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, regarding the verbal altercation that occurred between Ezekwesili and Senator Onyekachi Nwaebonyi.

The clash took place on Tuesday during a hearing by the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, where a new petition filed by Akpoti-Uduaghan against Senate President Godswill Akpabio was being considered.

Akpoti-Uduaghan has consistently accused Akpabio of intimidation, defamation, and sexual harassment.

Ezekwesili attended the committee hearing as a witness, alongside Abiola Akiode, Akpoti-Uduaghan’s counsel, and the petitioner, Zubairu Yakubu.

During the hearing, Senator Nwaebonyi, who appeared as a witness for Akpabio, repeatedly interrupted Ezekwesili.

In response, Ezekwesili asked Nwaebonyi to “compose himself and stop making noise” and told him, “please, will you shut up?”.

This led to a heated exchange, with Nwaebonyi verbally lashing out at the former minister.

Responding, Nwaebonyi said, “You’re a fool. What do you mean? Why are you talking to me like that? I will not take it. You’re an insult to womanhood. People like you cannot be here.”

In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan responded to the clash by apologizing to Oby Ezekwesili for the insults directed at her by the Imo lawmaker.

She also praised the former minister for her steadfast dedication to good governance, education, and democracy.

She wrote, “Ma’am, I apologise for the insults. Know you took them for me… for us … as a mother and as a leader. Know that you are a true icon of integrity, courage, and visionary leadership.

“Your unwavering commitment to good governance, education and democracy continues to inspire generations.

“A champion of accountability… Nigerians appreciate you. I celebrate your brilliance, resilience and selfless service. You are a hero.”
