Ifeanyi Ibezi, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and former House of Representatives member, has left the party and pledged his support for the re-election of Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo.
Ibezi, who previously represented the Idemili North and South Federal Constituency in the 9th National Assembly, made his defection public during a meeting with his political allies at his residence in Abatete, Idemili North Local Government Area, on Sunday.
He attributed his departure to the results of the APC governorship primary election, which nominated Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu as the party’s candidate.
Ibezi described the primary as a sham.

He argued that the APC had failed to select a strong and winnable candidate, and he emphasized that his decision to back Soludo, of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), was based on his belief in Soludo’s leadership and his desire for Anambra’s continued development.
He stated, “I have switched my support to Governor Soludo. Just like I delivered Idemili North and South to President Bola Tinubu in 2023, and to Soludo in the last election, I will once again mobilise votes in November to ensure Soludo’s victory.
“Soludo must return for a second term. I have toured his projects and I am convinced he is working. If your party is not ready to win, what do you do? You move on. I can’t be part of a party that is unserious about governance and victory.”
Speaking to his supporters, the former lawmaker asserted that any follower who did not comprehend his new political stance “lacks a fundamental understanding of politics.”
He further stated, “Our support for Soludo is complete and immediate. The APC is not prepared, and we will not waste our time.”
This development occurs amidst increasing dissatisfaction within the APC, following the withdrawal of three leading governorship candidates—Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, Sir Paul Chukwuma, and Chukwuma Umeoji—just hours before the primary election on Saturday.
The three candidates cited irregularities and alleged violent behavior by supporters of another candidate as their reasons for withdrawing from the race.
Prof. Okonkwo, in a statement, explained that he could not, in good conscience, endanger the lives of his supporters “in pursuit of a manipulated primary.”
Similarly, Sir Paul Chukwuma characterized the process as being hijacked by “retrogressive forces.”
