Finland Begins Terrorism Trial Against Simon Ekpa

Simon Ekpa, a Finnish politician and Biafra political activist, appeared before the Päijät-Häme District Court in Finland on Friday as the Finnish government commenced his terrorism trial.

Ekpa was arrested in November 2024 on suspicion of terror-related activities, including incitement to violence and terrorism financing.

He is accused of using social media to incite violence and cause unrest in Nigeria’s South-east region as part of his secessionist campaign for Biafra.

Prosecutors are seeking a six-year prison sentence for Ekpa, arguing that his activities may constitute terrorism under Finnish law.

State prosecutor Sampsa Hakala stated, “We have a great deal of evidence regarding this individual’s online activity and communications.”

During interrogations, Ekpa has denied ordering weapons for pro-Biafra groups and other allegations against him.
