FG Inaugurates Ministerial Committee For 2025 Democracy Day Celebration

The Federal Government has inaugurated the Inter-Ministerial Committee for the 2025 Democracy Day celebration, tasking it with organizing a memorable and impactful national event.

George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, has been appointed as the committee’s chairman.

The proposed activities for the 2025 Democracy Day celebration include:

  • World Press Briefing: Friday, June 6
  • Special Juma’at Service: Friday, June 6
  • Church Service: Sunday, June 8
  • Youth Programme: Tuesday, June 9
  • Public Lecture: Wednesday, June 11
  • Presidential Broadcast and Parade: Thursday, June 12

In a statement released on Thursday by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information, OSGF, Akume (represented by the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Atiku Bagudu) described the celebration as a crucial occasion to honor Nigeria’s democratic heroes and reflect on the nation’s transition from military rule to democratic governance.

He noted that Democracy Day serves not only as a time of remembrance but also as an opportunity for the government to present its achievements and reaffirm its commitment to democratic ideals.

Akume urged the committee members to collaborate with President Bola Tinubu’s administration in advancing the Renewed Hope Agenda.
