A man who reportedly infiltrated a bank’s computer systems by hiding in a toilet ceiling overnight during working hours has been apprehended by security personnel.
The incident, which gained widespread attention online, is said to have occurred at a bank in Imo State.
An account shared on social media platform X detailed that the unidentified individual entered the bank posing as a regular customer during the day.
By the following morning, staff discovered the toilet door locked from the inside.
Upon forcing entry, they located the man in the ceiling.
When the bank’s computer systems were activated, they reportedly displayed a message indicating a restart and prompting for acceptance.

The social media user’s post vividly described the sequence of events: “Yesterday, a customer entered a bank. He went to the toilet, climbed into the ceiling, and waited until staff left. At night, he descended and attempted to hack the systems before locking himself in. This morning, colleagues discovered the door locked from the inside, broke in, and found someone in the ceiling. Upon turning on the system, it displayed a message stating, ‘Restarting. Click OK to accept.’”
A video accompanying the post showed the man being forcibly removed and physically assaulted by security operatives who responded to an alert.
In response to the circulating video, the spokesperson for the Nigeria Police Force, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, condemned the officers’ actions, stating that the matter would be investigated. “Unprofessional conduct. Too bad. Many indecent acts were spotted in the video. We will look into it holistically,” Adejobi posted on X.
The incident has raised significant questions regarding bank security protocols and the potential vulnerability of financial institutions to physical breaches.
The violent treatment of the suspect has also drawn widespread condemnation. As of now, authorities have not released an official statement regarding the incident.
